Christmas Chocolate Brownie Pine Cones




(10 pinecones)

Ingredients

300ml dark chocolate, chopped

125g Butter

45ml Cocoa powder

5ml Instant coffee

3 Eggs

300ml Sugar

10ml Vanilla

250ml Flour

250ml semisweet chocolate chips

250ml Chocolate cereal

 

Method

1.     Preheat oven to 180oC and grease a 24 x 24 cm baking pan.

2.     Melt chopped chocolate and butter in a double boiler.

3.     Beat eggs and sugar using a hand mixer for 1 minute. Add vanilla. Slowly mix in the melted chocolate mixture.

4.     Stir in flour until combined, then fold in chocolate chips.

5.     Pour into pan, smooth out, and bake for 25 minutes. Leave to cool for 2 hours.

6.     Once cooled, remove top crust and break up brownies into a bowl. Shape into pinecone forms and chill for 30 minutes.

7.     Starting from the top, insert chocolate cereal in rows, down to the bottom.

 

CHOCOLATE SAUCE

(4-6 portions)

Ingredients

250 ml          sugar

50ml             Coco powder

½ ml             cream of tartar

½ ml             salt

125ml           water

12,5ml          butter

2,5ml            vanilla

 

Method

1.       Mix the sugar, Coco powder, cream of tartar, salt and water.  Bring it to the boil and boil for 5 minutes.

2.       Remove from the heat. Add the butter and leave to cool slightly.

3.       Add the vanilla.

4.       Serve hot with ice cream or any desired pudding.
